A new Microsoft Edge update promises several new organization features, an inspiration feed, and the ability to directly follow creators. In fact, Collections is getting the lion’s share of enhancements in the update. For those unaware, Collections allows you to pull together web pages, pictures, or videos from across the internet and stuff them into folders. The inspiration feed will show you tangentially related ideas from other websites. For example, you might have a series of food recipes saved. The new feed will show you other recipes to inspire you. HPE has unveiled a new Arm-based server at its annual Discover event; the 11th-generation ProLiant RL300 runs on Altra and Altra Max processors from Ampere Computing, which also feature in Oracle and Azure cloud offerings. The RL300 server will be available in Q3 and is the first (and only) Arm-based product in HPE’s server portfolio (excluding the Apollo 80 which, with its Fujitsu A64FX, targets a very small niche). Geared towards cloud-native applications, the RL300 is a 1U, single-socket server with a chassis that can hold up to ten 2.5-inch storage drives ( SSD or HDD ) and 16 DIMM slots. Mozilla is rolling out Firefox version 102 which now has the ability to prevent websites from tracking you. The full patch notes can be seen on Mozilla's page , which states Firefox will now mitigate “query parameter tracking when navigating sites…” Query parameters are the string of characters that appear in a URL after a question mark and can be used to track people across the internet. These parameters are used to display targeted ads, for example. To illustrate how the new feature works, BleepingComputer created a test page where you can click on one of the links and see a URL that looks like this: “example.com/?mc_eid=12”. If you take that URL into the new Firefox browser, the characters after the question mark will be gone. Political campaign emails could soon be safe from falling into Gmail spam folders if a new initiative from Google gets the green light. The technology giant has petitioned the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to approve a new pilot program that will make it less likely for such emails to end up marked as spam. The move could see Gmail inboxes flooded with political campaign emails, particularly as the United States gears up for a presidential election in 2024. Since its announcements at WWDC 2022 , users have been wondering how much of an improvement the battery life is on laptops running the new M2 chip - well, it's already impressing testers. Both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro were refreshed to have the M2 chip, the successor to Apple's Silicon efforts that it announced almost two years ago. The M1 chip and its subsequent spinoffs impressed with its speed, power and battery life, trouncing previous Macs with the Intel chips. However, in our early testing of the M2 MacBook Pro , it came out with battery life that could easily last the working day, coming out with results of over 15 hours of battery life.  While this is obviously impressive, I'm not tempted to start saving for an M2 MacBook Pro. Developer Riot Games will soon be listening in on the voice chats of Valorant players, the company announced recently -- and most people are a-okay about that.  Starting July 13 , Riot will launch a “voice evaluation system” and record in -game voice chats whenever a disruptive behavior report is submitted by players. Riot says this will help to train its language model to identify disruptive behavior, and states the voice evaluation will not be used in the reports themselves. A new email campaign is seeking to encrypt as many endpoints with the Lockbit 2.0 ransomware as it can. Given the contents of the email being distributed, it would seem the campaign is aimed at webmasters and website owners. The email “warns” the victim that their website is hosting copyright-protected content, and that they’re infringing on that copyright. It also urges the victim to remove the content from their websites immediately, or face legal action. Meta and a group of researchers from the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) are working on bringing realistic audio to the metaverse. As Kristen Garuman, Research Director at Meta AI, explains , there’s more to augmented and virtual reality (AR and VR, respectively) than just visuals. Audio plays a very important role in making a world feel alive. Garuman says “audio is shaped by the environment that [it’s] in.” There are various factors that influence how sound behaves like the geometry of a room, what’s in said room, and how far someone is from a source. To achieve this, Meta's plan is to use AR glasses to record both audio and video from one location, then using a set of three AI models, transform and clean the recording so it feels like it's happening in front of you when you play it back at home.
